Shaftesbury Municipal Almshouse Charity is known in the town as Chubbs House.
Chubbs House is age restricted for single people and we offer a mix of bedsit style and one bed flat accommodation. These provide for independent living, although there is a communal sitting room and a part time on-site warden.
There is lift access to the first floor, a laundry room and temporary guest facilities for residents’ family or friends.
The building is situated in its own well kept gardens on Salisbury Street, Shaftesbury with extensive views over the beautiful Blackmore Vale.
Local Amenities
Chubbs House is situated in the ancient Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury. The town is home to Gold Hill, made famous in Ridley Scott’s Hovis Bread advertisement. Apart from the local tourist attractions, the town has a swimming pool and Arts Centre which puts on plays throughout the year and a pantomime at Christmas. The town also has two supermarkets, many shops, cafes, public houses and a Post Office. There is a bus stop approximately 200 yards from Chubbs offering accessibility to towns further afield.
Events
We organise events throughout the year for residents, should they wish to participate. These include a Christmas / New Year party in January and a Town Band concert in June or July.
Community involvement
As a community based charity, we work closely with local business partners including the acting Clerk to the Trustees provided by Rutter & Allhusen, Chartered Accountants.
